Varsity Tutors is searching for a highly-skilled, action-oriented Sr Mobile Engineer (full-time contractor) based internationally. In this position, you will…

• Join a highly motivated & collaborative team of remote engineers, mentoring your junior and intermediate peers towards excellence.

• Collaborate with stakeholders and partners across teams and departments

• Write performant, maintainable code that is easy to read and well-documented

• Write automated tests to thoroughly validate the correctness of your code

• Deploy large-scale web applications

• Have a focus on quality, and operate iteratively to get from good to better

• Be a part of your team’s on-call rotation; we all own our code end-to-end from development to deployment to operations

General qualifications:

• Computer Science or related degree

• Top-notch teamwork and communication skills.

• Ability to manage your workload with minimal supervision

• Understanding of OO design, algorithms, and data structures

• Aptitude to quickly learn new languages and technologies as necessary

• Strong code versioning skills (rebase/merge/pull requests/squashing)

• A strong and proven experience in building native apps

Qualifications:

• Experience with Java, Kotlin and Jetpack Compose

• Experience with Room, Dagger, Retrofit, Gradle, and Building an sdk from scratch

• Experience with continuous integration (Ideally via github actions)

• MVVM architectural pattern and Dagger dependency management

• Candidates that have a portfolio of apps on the Playstore will be highly considered

• Keeping up to date with Google IO and staying tuned with the latest best practices

• Familiarity with Google services (Mainly Firebase)

• Familiarity with AWS Services (e.g. EKS, RDS, Kinesis, EC2, Lambda, et cetera)

• Familiarity with push notifications, APIs, and cloud messaging

• Nice to have experience with Twilio, Vonage (Opentok), and Lottie

• Nice to have some python or other scripting experience
