Job description

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Hardware Software Integration Engineer to support the deployment, integration, and reliability of next-generation compute, sensor, and networking systems used in autonomous vehicles.

In this role, you’ll ensure critical hardware subsystems operate reliably across vehicle platforms by troubleshooting complex hardware-software integration issues, supporting vehicle bring-up activities, and enabling manufacturing and fleet operations. You’ll work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to identify root causes, improve system reliability, and support the successful deployment of advanced autonomous vehicle technologies.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically curious, and an effective communicator who enjoys solving complex integration challenges across hardware, firmware, and software systems.

As a Hardware Software Integration Engineer, you'll:
  • Lead the investigation, debugging, and resolution of complex hardware-software integration issues across vehicle platforms.
  • Partner with hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing, and operations teams to identify root causes and drive issues to closure.
  • Support vehicle bring-up, validation, and manufacturing activities for compute, sensor, and networking systems.
  • Develop test plans, validation procedures, and system-level test strategies to support manufacturing and vehicle integration requirements.
  • Create and maintain automation tools, test infrastructure, and analysis workflows to improve debugging efficiency and test coverage.
  • Leverage in-house diagnostic and analysis tools to evaluate system performance and investigate failures.
  • Provide feedback to engineering teams to improve future product designs, reliability, and serviceability.
  • Develop processes and operational workflows that improve fleet stability and deployment readiness.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline
  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience troubleshooting complex hardware, firmware, and software integration issues
  • Familiarity with hardware communication interfaces such as Ethernet, CAN, USB, UART, LIN, I2C, SPI, or similar technologies
  • Experience using hardware debugging and test equipment to diagnose system-level issues
  • Familiarity with requirements development, test planning, and test case creation
  • Proficiency in Python or a similar scripting language
  • Experience with Git or other version control systems
  • Familiarity with software debugging and analysis tools
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Experience with requirements management and issue tracking tools such as Polarion, Jira, or similar platforms
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals, including familiarity with microcontroller-based systems, sensing technologies, power electronics, or wireless communication technologies such as Bluetooth, LTE, or NFC
  • Experience reviewing schematics, PCB layouts, and electrical designs
  • Familiarity with electrical characterization equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and related laboratory tools
  • Experience supporting autonomous vehicles, robotics, automotive, or other complex embedded systems environments

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.

HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
