Job description

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Database Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable, secure, and reliable data platforms that power business-critical applications and analytics.

In this role, you’ll partner closely with application, infrastructure, and data teams to optimize database architecture, improve performance, and automate operational workflows. Your work will enhance system reliability, reduce operational overhead, and enable scalable growth across development and production environments.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with deep database expertise, strong cloud infrastructure experience, and a passion for building highly available, performant data systems.

As a Database Engineer, you'll:
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable database solutions aligned with business and application requirements.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and support database platforms and related infrastructure.
  • Monitor database performance and optimize queries, indexes, schemas, and configurations to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with application and data teams to design scalable schemas and improve SQL performance.
  • Implement and maintain security controls, access management, and data protection strategies.
  • Troubleshoot database incidents and drive timely resolution across development, test, and production environments.
  • Develop and maintain architecture documentation, operational runbooks, and support procedures.
  • Perform capacity planning and recommend infrastructure improvements to support future growth.
  • Manage and support AWS-based database services, including RDS, Aurora, Redshift, and related technologies.
  • Automate database operations and deployment workflows using infrastructure-as-code and cloud-native tools.
  • Stay current on emerging database technologies, industry trends, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a database engineer, database administrator (DBA), or similar role
  • Strong experience managing cloud-based database infrastructure, preferably within AWS environments
  • Deep knowledge of relational and analytical database platforms such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, and Redshift
  • Strong SQL development, query optimization, and performance tuning skills
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, normalization, schema design, and database architecture principles
  • Experience with database monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support
  • Knowledge of backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Understanding of database security best practices, access controls, and data protection methodologies
  • Experience managing infrastructure through infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with AWS networking concepts and cloud infrastructure architecture
  • Experience with Terraform Cloud and infrastructure-as-code workflows
  • Experience developing automation and operational tooling using Python, Shell, or similar scripting languages
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and database deployment tools such as Flyway, Bamboo, or similar platforms
  • Experience supporting large-scale production environments and mission-critical applications

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.

HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
