Job description
HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Sensor System Validation Engineer to support the verification and validation of next-generation sensing systems used in autonomous vehicle platforms.
In this role, you’ll work closely with systems, software, and sensor hardware engineers to develop validation methodologies, design test strategies, and evaluate the performance of lidar, camera, and radar systems. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring sensor architectures meet system requirements and perform reliably across a wide range of operating conditions.
The ideal candidate is analytical, collaborative, and passionate about validating complex sensor and perception systems through data-driven testing and automation.
As a Sensor System Validation Engineer, you'll:
As a Sensor System Validation Engineer, you'll:
- Support verification and validation (V&V) activities for lidar, camera, and radar systems on next-generation vehicle platforms.
- Partner with systems, software, and sensor hardware engineers to develop and refine validation methodologies for advanced sensor architectures.
- Design and execute test plans in simulation environments to verify sensing system requirements and validate system-level performance.
- Translate scenario-based requirements into actionable data mining strategies and develop validation datasets to support testing efforts.
- Integrate and orchestrate software pipelines that transform sensor data into meaningful system-level KPIs and performance metrics.
- Develop reusable analysis tools, test automation frameworks, and validation software using Python and/or C++.
- Analyze large datasets to identify performance trends, validate system behavior, and support engineering decision-making.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in sensor validation processes, tooling, and automation workflows.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. in a relevant field, or a master's degree in engineering with 3+ years of experience in sensor systems, perception systems, or related testing and validation environments
- Familiarity with at least one sensing modality, including camera, lidar, or radar systems
- Experience with data mining and large-scale data analysis using SQL, PySpark, Scala, or similar technologies
- Strong programming and data analysis skills using Python, MATLAB, C++, or comparable languages
- Experience working in collaborative, cross-functional engineering environments
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with perception systems, autonomous vehicles, robotics, or advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
- Experience with systems engineering verification and validation methodologies
- Experience with sensor simulation, synthetic data generation, fault injection, or related validation techniques
- Experience developing test automation frameworks, particularly within production or large-scale testing environments
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration, data pipelines, or distributed computing environments
Benefits:
- Pre-tax commuter benefits
- Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
- Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
- HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
- 401k package
Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be hybrid, requiring at least three days per week onsite, and is available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
