Job description

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Software Development Engineer to help accelerate software releases by ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, and high-quality autonomous vehicle software.

In this role, you’ll build and maintain tooling that automates integration and acceptance testing activities across complex vehicle systems. Your work will play a critical role in validating software quality, identifying regressions, improving test coverage, and supporting functional and safety sign-off processes. You’ll collaborate closely with development and validation teams to improve testing efficiency and system reliability across both simulated and on-vehicle environments.

The ideal candidate is technically strong, detail-oriented, and experienced developing automated test frameworks within complex, safety-critical systems.

As a Software Development Engineer in Test, you'll:
  • Develop and maintain tooling, frameworks, and automated scripts supporting integration and acceptance testing activities.
  • Investigate issues introduced by recent code changes and support daily integration and acceptance test sign-off activities.
  • Monitor, analyze, and automate reporting for offline testing environments, including HIL systems, CI test runs, and on-vehicle logs.
  • Develop tools and workflows for vehicle log analysis, failure tracing, root cause investigation, and test data analysis.
  • Identify software regressions, support defect triage activities, and collaborate with development teams on corrective actions and improvements.
  • Contribute to testing methodologies, validation strategies, and automation improvements supporting functional and safety validation efforts.
  • Partner cross-functionally with software, systems, and validation teams to improve release quality and operational reliability.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience working within complex testing or validation environments such as automotive, aerospace, robotics, consumer electronics, or similar industries
  • Experience developing automated scripts and tooling for software functional testing and system validation
  • Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, automation frameworks, and validation processes
  • Expert-level Python programming skills with a focus on system-level testing and test framework development
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, cross-functional engineering environments

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting verification and validation activities for robotics, autonomous systems, or other safety-critical software platforms
  • Familiarity with performance measurement and system-level validation methodologies
  • Experience with GitHub, CI pipelines, and Jira
  • Familiarity with modern AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar platforms
  • Experience developing internal tooling, automation frameworks, or prototype validation systems

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.

HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
