Job description

HireArt is helping our client find a Vehicle Operations Specialist to play a key role in advancing AI-centric autonomous technology, acting as the link between their cutting-edge AI and the unpredictability of the open road.
In this role, you’ll operate vehicles with proprietary technology, execute specific test scenarios, and monitor vehicle systems to ensure safe and effective testing. You’ll also perform vehicle inspections, document system performance, provide feedback to engineering teams, and help troubleshoot issues identified during your shift.

The ideal candidate has a strong driving record and is comfortable working with technology in a safety-critical environment. You bring strong situational awareness, technical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to communicate detailed observations through clear verbal and written reporting.

Available Shifts
AM: 6:00am – 2:30pm
PM: 2:00pm – 10:30pm

As a Vehicle Operations Specialist you'll:
  • Monitor vehicle software systems while upholding safe operational protocols and full legal compliance.
  • Execute specific test cases (e.g., navigating construction zones, roundabouts, heavy pedestrian traffic, etc.) and document system performance accordingly.
  • Provide concise, high-quality verbal and written feedback on non-ideal vehicle behaviors and edge-case scenarios.
  • Perform pre-and-post-trip vehicle inspections, ensuring sensors (LiDAR, Cameras, Radar) are clean and report major operational concerns accordingly.
  • Work directly with Software and Hardware Engineers to troubleshoot issues identified during your shift(s).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License for at least 5 years with a pristine driving history (no major infractions in the last 5+ years)
  • Ability to navigate complex software interfaces and troubleshoot basic hardware/connectivity issues
  • High "situational awareness"—the ability to remain hyper-focused for long durations in a repetitive environment
  • Strong written English skills for technical reporting and clear verbal skills for real-time communications
  • Comfort with a rapidly changing environment; you might be testing a new software build every single day
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including nights and weekends)
  • Must pass a rigorous background check and drug screen

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience in fleet operations and/or precision driving
  • Experience in the AV industry or testing complex hardware/software systems
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics or basic automotive mechanics.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit in a vehicle for up to 6-8 hours per day.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs (e.g., moving sensor calibration equipment)
  • Clear vision and hearing (with or without corrective wear/aids) to monitor environment
Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. The role is onsite and available to candidates local to the San Francisco, CA area.

HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
