HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a User Experience Hardware Electrical Engineer to support the development of key human-machine interface (HMI) systems used by riders to interact with autonomous vehicles.
In this role, you’ll develop system requirements, solve complex design challenges, prototype and validate hardware solutions, and coordinate cross-functional development activities to support critical vehicle milestones.

The ideal candidate is highly hands-on, collaborative, and experienced in electrical system design, validation, and troubleshooting within complex hardware environments.
As a User Experience Hardware Electrical Engineer, you'll:
As a User Experience Hardware Electrical Engineer, you'll:
- Develop electrical component and system requirements for rider-facing HMI hardware systems.
- Lead technical discussions and development activities with external suppliers, including drawing reviews, requirement validation, and engineering change management.
- Support hardware development from concept through production, including prototype bring-up, validation, and deployment activities.
- Investigate and resolve electrical, system, and integration issues through detailed root cause analysis, log reviews, and component-level debugging.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, systems, firmware, software, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams to develop and improve hardware solutions.
- Coordinate supplier tooling, manufacturing readiness, and production activities to support key vehicle milestones.
- Develop and execute system- and component-level validation test plans.
- Support vehicle build, bring-up, integration, and testing activities across development and deployment phases.
- Travel within the Bay Area and internationally as needed to support suppliers, testing, and program activities.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in electrical component or system design, integration, and troubleshooting
- Experience taking hardware components or assemblies from concept through production while managing supplier deliverables and project timelines
- Experience within automotive, aerospace, or other safety-critical industries
- Familiarity with automotive communication networks and protocols such as CAN bus, automotive Ethernet, A2B, or similar systems
- Experience working with onboard digital serial interfaces such as SPI, UART, I2C, and I2S
- Experience with electrical validation, EMI/EMC testing, and system-level troubleshooting
- Strong analytical, debugging, and cross-functional communication skills
- Ability to travel within the Bay Area and internationally as needed
Bonus Qualifications:
- Knowledge of automotive functional safety standards such as ISO 26262
- Firmware or software experience, including exposure to Python, C/C++, or scripting languages
- Experience with chassis systems or electromechanical systems
- Experience with high-speed bus protocols such as PCIe, DisplayPort, or HDMI
- Experience using hardware development and CAD tools such as Altium, 3DX, or CATIA V5/V6
