Job description

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a Hardware Test Automation Engineer to develop and maintain automated test software supporting advanced autonomous vehicle hardware systems.

In this role, you’ll develop and document automation software used to validate compute platforms, sensors, firmware, and hardware systems. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to build module-level, system-level, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test solutions that support both prototype and production environments.

The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative and detail-oriented engineer with strong Python development skills, hands-on lab testing experience, and a passion for building reliable, scalable test infrastructure for complex hardware systems.

Training Schedule:
  • Initial training will require five days per week onsite.
  • Following training, the role will transition to a hybrid schedule requiring at least three days per week onsite.

As a Hardware Test Automation Engineer, you'll:
  • Develop Python scripts, libraries, and automation frameworks to support station configuration and automated test execution.
  • Design and implement automated tests for compute hardware, sensors, and firmware in both prototype and production environments.
  • Collaborate with test leads and engineering teams to develop test plans, test stations, and validation strategies based on technical requirements.
  • Support test campaigns in partnership with design engineers, systems engineers, and project managers.
  • Develop tools for post-processing, visualization, and analysis of test data.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation to support software usability and long-term maintainability.
  • Contribute to software quality, automation best practices, and continuous improvement efforts across validation workflows.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of object-oriented programming experience in Python
  • 3+ years of experience testing electronics in a laboratory environment using equipment such as power supplies and related test instrumentation
  • Experience with test automation frameworks such as PyTest, Robot Framework, or similar tools
  • Experience with concurrent programming concepts, including threads and queues
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, or optical test procedures
  • Experience developing Bash scripts or embedded C/C++ applications in Linux environments
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, or TCP/IP
  • Knowledge of object-oriented design patterns and software architecture best practices
  • Experience with development and testing tools such as Git, Jira, Reviewable, Bamboo, Polarion, or TestRail
  • Experience using static analysis and formatting tools such as PyLint and Black
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. The role is hybrid, requiring at least three days per week onsite following an initial five-day-per-week onsite training period, and is available to candidates local to the Foster City, CA area.

HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
