Job description

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a Hardware & Wireless Validation Engineer to develop, document, and execute comprehensive validation testing across hardware, wireless systems, and vehicle network interfaces.

In this role, you’ll focus on validating mission-critical wireless technologies including 4G-LTE, 5G-NR, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and other on-vehicle network protocols. You’ll collaborate closely with design engineers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to ensure systems meet performance, reliability, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on validation engineer with deep wireless systems expertise, strong troubleshooting skills, and experience building and maintaining complex test environments.

As a Hardware & Wireless Validation Engineer, you'll:

Test Execution & Analysis
  • Execute functional, performance, environmental, and reliability testing across hardware and network-connected systems.
  • Utilize lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, VNAs, e-loads, spectrum analyzers, and environmental chambers.
  • Operate and troubleshoot wireless validation platforms from vendors such as Keysight and Rohde & Schwarz.
  • Analyze modem and network logs using tools such as QXDM, QCAT, or ShannonDM.
Test Infrastructure Development
  • Select, configure, commission, and maintain validation equipment, software, and lab infrastructure.
  • Develop custom test assets including simulators, harnesses, automation scripts, and RF/network test setups.
  • Build and maintain wired and wireless test environments, including Ethernet and RF infrastructure.
Protocol & System Validation
  • Develop and execute test plans for LTE, 5G NR (NSA/SA), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, IP networking, and related protocols.
  • Validate Layer 1-3 protocol behavior, including PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC, and NAS functionality.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and engineering teams to troubleshoot failures and validate network/system performance.
  • Support testing and troubleshooting of automotive Ethernet systems and network-connected hardware.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Create and maintain detailed test plans, validation reports, design reviews, and data analysis documentation.
  • Support regulatory and carrier conformance testing, including FCC, PTCRB/GCF, and U.S. MNO certification requirements.
  • Analyze network diagnostics and performance data using tools such as Wireshark and related logging platforms.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, telecommunications, or a related field
  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience in electronics or wireless systems development
  • 5+ years of hands-on wireless system validation experience
  • Experience configuring and programming wireless validation platforms (e.g., Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz)
  • Strong knowledge of Ethernet standards, IP networking, and 3GPP LTE/5G-NR architectures
  • Experience with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Classic/LE protocols and PHY layers
  • Proficiency with lab and RF test equipment, including oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers, and e-loads
  • Experience with regulatory conformance testing and network diagnostics
  • Strong understanding of LTE and NR protocol stack features and carrier specifications
  • Familiarity with Ethernet test equipment such as Ixia or Spirent and related software platforms

Bonus Qualifications:
  • An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience with systems or networking architecture concepts
  • Familiarity with protocols such as PCIe, CAN, SPI, I2C, MDIO, or IEEE 802.3 standards
  • Experience with Broadcom, Marvell, or similar networking chipsets
  • Familiarity with NRZ and PAM-4 signaling technologies
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE
  • Experience with data acquisition systems, Polarion, Jira, or Confluence
  • Participation in engineering competitions or research programs (e.g., SAE, FIRST, DARPA)

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
