Job description
HireArt is helping our client find an AV Safety Data Engineer (Contract) to support safety-critical data infrastructure and analysis.
In this role, you’ll develop and maintain scalable data systems that surface safety-relevant interactions, evaluate AV events, and inform autonomy development through data-driven insights. You’ll build pipelines, metrics, and tools that generate reliable signals from large datasets, directly influencing system readiness and safe deployment.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, technically strong in data engineering, and experienced working with safety-critical systems.
As an AV Safety Data Engineer (Contract), you'll:
As an AV Safety Data Engineer (Contract), you'll:
- Develop and maintain data miners to identify safety-relevant events from fleet and simulation data.
- Improve miner accuracy and efficiency using statistical and machine learning techniques.
- Build scalable data pipelines and dashboards to monitor signal quality, performance, and key safety metrics.
- Conduct exploratory analyses to identify trends, failure modes, and opportunities to improve vehicle behavior.
- Triage and assess AV events, including system behavior and hardware anomalies, for safety, legal, or regulatory concerns.
- Define and maintain triage guidelines for both onshore and offshore teams.
- Support regulatory reporting by providing data insights and analysis.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in computer science, data science, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related engineering field
- 6+ years of experience working with safety-critical systems (e.g., AV, automotive, transportation)
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
- Experience working with large datasets and distributed processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Databricks)
- Strong data engineering skills, including building scalable and maintainable data pipelines
- Solid understanding of statistics, probability, and sampling methodologies
- Proven ability to design metrics, analyze data, and translate findings into actionable insights
- Understanding of behavioral safety concepts and real-world vehicle behavior
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally and communicating technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Strong attention to detail and process/documentation skills
Bonus Qualifications:
- PhD in a relevant technical field
- Experience with AV safety or system behavior triage
- Experience with geospatial data analysis
- Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Looker)
- Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262)
