Job description
HireArt is helping our client find a Hardware Engineer (Test Development) to develop, document, and execute component- and system-level hardware testing.
In this role, you’ll collaborate with suppliers, design engineers, and system engineers to characterize the performance of sensing and compute hardware. You’ll support both early-stage prototype testing and qualification testing for modules intended for vehicle integration.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who is curious, proactive, and comfortable working in fast-paced development environments.

As a Hardware Engineer (Test Development), you'll:
- Develop and execute test plans for component- and system-level validation.
- Design test setups, including block diagrams, bills of materials (BOMs), and test procedures.
- Build custom test assets such as load simulators, test harnesses, and Python-based automation tools.
- Use lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers, environmental chambers) to conduct electrical and environmental testing.
- Partner with suppliers and internal teams to support test infrastructure development and execution.
- Lead and contribute to technical reviews, including test plans, design reviews, test readiness reviews, and data reviews.
- Review and support documentation related to standards, design, and risk assessments.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field
- 4+ years of professional experience, including at least 2 years in electronics development or testing
- Experience testing electronic systems in automotive, aerospace, or similar industries
- Experience with PCB design tools (Altium preferred)
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, environmental chambers, electronic loads, VNAs, TDRs, and spectrum analyzers
- Experience working in Linux environments (Ubuntu) and using Python for testing or automation
- Ability to travel within the Bay Area
Preferred Qualifications:
- An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in engineering or a related field
- Participation in technical competitions (e.g., SAE, FIRST, DARPA)
- Knowledge of systems architecture, networking, and hardware subsystems
- Experience with CAN compliance and common communication protocols (SPI, I2C, MDIO)
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems (e.g., UEI, Keysight)
- Experience with requirements and test case management tools (e.g., Polarion)
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence)
