Job description
HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a Fleet Support Engineer (Vehicle Systems) to serve as the technical lead for the EMU-S vehicle platform. This role focuses on deep root cause analysis of complex vehicle failures across chassis, powertrain, high-voltage systems, and CAN architectures.
In this role, you’ll go beyond component replacement to perform system-level and component-level diagnostics, acting as a critical feedback loop between the test fleet and core engineering teams.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong diagnostic expertise across electrical and mechanical systems and a proven ability to solve complex, cross-domain vehicle issues.
As a Fleet Support Engineer, you'll:
As a Fleet Support Engineer, you'll:
- Lead investigations of critical failures across the R&D fleet, including high-voltage isolation faults, powertrain systems (inverters and motors), and chassis control systems.
- Perform physical diagnostics using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and insulation testers to validate harness integrity and signal quality.
- Analyze CAN bus traffic using tools such as Vector CANalyzer or PCAN to identify missing messages, error frames, and bus load issues.
- Debug HMI systems to ensure driver inputs (e.g., stalks, screens, buttons) are correctly interpreted by vehicle controllers.
- Validate fixes for complex and intermittent issues, including thermal throttling, BMS logic, and regenerative braking behavior.
- Support integration of new hardware revisions, ensuring compatibility with existing vehicle systems.
- Develop detailed failure analysis reports (e.g., 8D) to provide actionable insights to design engineering teams.
- Create clear troubleshooting guides that map symptoms to root causes for broader technical use.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field
- 6+ years of experience in automotive, aerospace, or autonomous vehicle environments
- Strong experience troubleshooting both low-voltage and high-voltage vehicle systems safely
- Hands-on experience with chassis systems, including suspension, steering, and braking
- Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics and control systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system logic diagrams
- Experience with CAN diagnostics and debugging tools
- Familiarity with Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS)
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues across system and component levels
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering and operations teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink or ADAMS
- Familiarity with CAN messaging related to chassis and suspension systems
- Experience working with electric vehicle systems
- Experience supporting remote vehicle diagnostics
- Familiarity with Linux and Python for data analysis or fleet-level diagnostics
- Experience with GPS or RTS debugging
Benefits:
- Pre-tax commuter benefits
- Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
- Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
- HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
- 401k package
Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
