You will have flexibility in how and when you complete your work, provided project quality standards and deadlines are met. Work is completed independently using provided technical specifications, with periodic acceptance testing of deliverables.
As a Data Entry and Content Review Specialist, you'll:
- Review biomedical journal articles and validate structured metadata within specialized data management systems.
- Independently analyze English-language articles to identify and record research funding acknowledgments, including government and private grant identifiers.
- Identify and link related citations such as errata, retractions, and dataset DOIs (e.g., GenBank, Dryad, Figshare) to ensure data integrity.
- Apply correct status indicators to citations, filtering non-citable items and ensuring compliance with established data standards.
- Manage your time and processes to meet your project deliverable of approximately 35 citations per hour while maintaining a high accuracy rate.
Requirements
- High school diploma (Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Library Science, or related fields is preferred)
- Previous experience in data entry, metadata review, or structured data validation
- Ability to navigate scientific journal articles, XML-formatted citations, and publisher websites independently
- must provide their own computer, high-speed internet, and a PIV card reader
- Must be able to pass a government background check to obtain the required security badge and system access
- Professional-level English reading comprehension and the ability to work confidently with complex written content
- Ability to meet project milestones during the project term
- Must have access to a laptop or desktop and a reliable internet connection
Background Check Requirements:
Due to the nature of the data systems involved, the following security and credentialing steps are mandatory:
- Tier 1 Federal Background Check: Retention is contingent on passing a Tier 1 federal background check for non-sensitive, low-risk data. This requires no felony convictions or pending legal proceedings.
- Fingerprinting: The process takes approximately 30 days and includes mandatory in-person fingerprinting at an approved local office. The cost of this background check is covered.
- In-Person Credentialing: Once the background check is approved, you will be required to travel in person to Bethesda, Maryland, to collect an official work badge from a federal facility. This is a mandatory step for system access; travel requirements should be considered before applying.
Commitment: This is an independent contractor position staffed via HireArt. This role will be remote and is ideal for candidates located in U.S. time zones, excluding California, Massachusetts, New York or New Jersey who are able to work between 8 and 40 hours per week. Workers will be able to set their own schedule.
HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp
