Job description

HireArt is helping our client find a Data Scientist to build and optimize data mining and validation frameworks that support an autonomous vehicle’s understanding of its environment.

In this role, you’ll help ensure the data used to train perception models is accurate, reliable, and representative of the complex real-world environments robotaxis operate in. You will focus on improving the performance, reliability, and quality of large-scale data mining operations and the overall health of perception datasets.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with large datasets in fast-paced engineering environments. You bring strong programming and data analysis skills, along with the ability to communicate insights clearly to cross-functional teams.

As a Data Scientist, you'll:
  • Own a critical data mining link between raw sensor logs and perception training pipelines.
  • Establish and maintain rigorous quality assurance (QA) processes for classified objects such as pedestrians, vehicles, and traffic signs.
  • Perform root cause analysis on data quality issues or edge-case failures and communicate findings to the broader engineering team.
  • Define and maintain data quality objectives that accurately reflect the health and accuracy of perception datasets.
  • Collaborate with engineers across the organization who rely on mined data to improve vehicle autonomy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering field
  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data manipulation, scripting, and analysis
  • Advanced SQL skills for extracting and mining data from large-scale databases
  • Solid understanding of machine learning principles, particularly object classification (e.g., vehicles, bicycles, traffic signs)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical insights to cross-functional stakeholders

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Experience working with perception systems for robotics or autonomous vehicles
  • Familiarity with computer vision concepts such as bounding boxes or semantic segmentation
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and tooling such as AWS, Kubernetes, or Terraform
  • Experience with large-scale data orchestration and automated QA frameworks
  • Experience using statistical analysis to validate model performance against ground truth data

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) Subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It is hybrid (requiring at least three days per week onsite) and available to candidates local to the Foster City, CA area.

HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
