HireArt is helping our client find a Brake Performance Engineer to support the development and validation of braking systems for advanced vehicle platforms.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing and validating vehicle-level brake performance, ensuring braking systems deliver optimal safety, comfort, and reliability across a range of driving conditions.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong experience in brake system development, vehicle testing, and data-driven performance analysis. You are comfortable working at the intersection of hardware, controls, and vehicle dynamics.

As a Brake Performance Engineer, you'll:
- Develop and optimize brake performance and braking comfort at the vehicle level.
- Test and refine the interaction between brake and drivetrain actuators to ensure coordinated system performance.
- Develop and track performance metrics and targets for vehicle-level braking behavior.
- Translate vehicle-level performance targets into system and component requirements.
- Develop and refine testing methodologies to improve validation accuracy and efficiency.
- Support simulation development used to predict vehicle braking performance.
- Implement innovative technical solutions that enable optimal brake system performance.
- Execute vehicle-level validation testing.
- Lead data analysis and root cause investigations for braking performance issues.
- Monitor fleet performance using operational dashboards and performance metrics.
- Lead and report on FMVSS-related braking tests.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or automotive engineering
- 5+ years of automotive or related brake development and vehicle testing experience
- Strong understanding of hydraulic braking systems and/or electromechanical braking systems, including controllers and stability functions
- Familiarity with vehicle dynamics across different surface conditions
- Ability to conduct vehicle testing at or near the physical limits of the vehicle
- Experience with vehicle-level and bench-level brake integration
- Hands-on experience working with vehicles, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
- Familiarity with FMVSS-related braking tests
- Experience with brake performance tools and software such as CANalyzer, INCA, MDA, MATLAB/Simulink, or Racelogic VBOX
- Experience using ticketing or issue-tracking systems
- Willingness to travel frequently within the continental United States (including CA, AZ, MI, OH, and MN)
