Job description
HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a Fleet Support Engineer to provide field technical support focused on the reliability and performance of fleet vehicles.
In this role, you’ll serve as a subject matter expert in compute systems, supporting Tier 2 (regional) fleet support engineers on complex escalations. You will identify reliability gaps, reduce repair and escalation times through improved tooling and documentation, and provide critical feedback to hardware engineering teams to improve system design.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, analytical, and comfortable diagnosing complex issues across hardware, firmware, and software systems in a fast-paced operational environment.
As a Fleet Support Engineer, you'll:
As a Fleet Support Engineer, you'll:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Tier 2 escalations involving compute system issues, including GPUs, PSUs, SSDs, and networking components.
- Conduct detailed log analysis to identify hardware, software, tooling, and process failures across fleet vehicles.
- Develop and maintain troubleshooting guides for Tier 1 and Tier 2 support teams to enable consistent diagnostics across service depots.
- Lead deep-dive investigations into new or complex failure modes using root cause analysis methodologies such as 7-Step or 8D problem-solving techniques.
- Develop short-term mitigations and long-term corrective actions to improve vehicle safety and system reliability and prevent recurring issues.
- Perform hardware bring-up and validation procedures for new vehicle components.
- Monitor fleet-wide telemetry to identify early indicators of hardware degradation or firmware/software regressions before they become critical failures.
- Drive closed-loop feedback by translating field failure data into engineering change requests that improve subsystem design.
- Travel domestically as needed to support fleet operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- 2+ years of relevant industry experience
- Experience diagnosing complex issues across hardware, firmware, and software systems
- Deep understanding of computer architecture, including GPUs, PCIe devices, SSDs, and network interface cards
- Experience working in Linux environments, including debugging failures using command-line tools and parsing kernel and system logs
- Experience using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, Picoscopes, CANalyzer, and thermal cameras
- Knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as CAN and Automotive Ethernet
Bonus Qualifications:
- Knowledge of computer networking concepts such as TCP/IP, UDP, SSH, and basic firewall/security principles
- Experience diagnosing issues with sensor systems such as LiDAR, cameras, and radar
- Experience with harness debugging and repair
- Proficiency with Python and Git or other version control systems
Benefits:
- Pre-tax commuter benefits
- Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
- Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
- HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
- 401k package
Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
