Job description

HireArt is helping Toyota Research Institute find a UX Researcher to support research for its factory robotics initiative. This role partners closely with the lead UX researcher and contributes to the execution and synthesis of robotics UX research. You will support user research involving both digital interfaces and physical human-robot interactions.

In this role, you will focus on hands-on qualitative research, including in-person contextual inquiries, usability testing, and interviews. You will assist with study setup, data collection, and synthesis and contribute to research findings and insights that help translate user needs into impactful robotics applications.

The ideal candidate is collaborative, detail-oriented, and experienced in supporting qualitative UX research in technical environments.

As a UX Researcher, you'll:
  • Support qualitative research activities such as contextual inquiries, usability testing, interviews, and in-person observations.
  • Assist with research study planning, logistics, and preparation under the guidance of the lead UX researcher.
  • Conduct note-taking and documentation during interviews and research sessions.
  • Help synthesize research findings and contribute to insights that inform design and product decisions.
  • Collaborate with researchers, designers, and engineers to translate research insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Support research involving both digital interfaces and physical human-robot interaction systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in HCI, interaction design, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience supporting UX or qualitative research in industry or academic environments
  • Hands-on experience supporting qualitative research activities such as interviews, contextual inquiries, usability testing, and in-person observation under the guidance of a lead researcher
  • Experience participating in collaborative synthesis of research findings
  • Familiarity with Figma for prototype testing and organizing research notes and artifacts
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, designers, and engineers
  • Ability to travel domestically 4-6 times per year
  • Ability to stand for extended periods while conducting field research in potentially loud environments

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Experience testing interfaces for physical or embodied systems such as robots or hardware
  • Experience producing visually compelling research reports and presentations
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams
  • Experience supporting research with specialized user groups such as domain experts or technical users
