In this role, you’ll evaluate form, fit, function, and service access across products while collaborating cross-functionally to optimize repairability, reduce maintenance costs, and improve operational uptime. You will also help manage inspection and maintenance programs across operational and test fleets.

The ideal candidate has hands-on mechanical design experience, strong systems understanding, and a passion for improving product serviceability and lifecycle performance.

As a Mechanical Engineer, Serviceability, you'll:

Design for Serviceability (DFS)
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to drive serviceability improvements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Evaluate part and assembly designs from concept through manufacturing, ensuring proper hand clearance, tooling access, ergonomics, and replacement feasibility.
  • Identify the need for specialized tooling and collaborate with tooling teams on design and development.
  • Develop cost and time models to identify opportunities to reduce repair complexity and service costs.
  • Partner with technical writing teams to define and document repair procedures.
  • Develop service part release strategies and maintain the Service BOM to support spare parts planning.
Inspection & Maintenance (I&M)
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and maintain inspection and maintenance plans for operational vehicles and test fleets.
  • Analyze maintenance effectiveness data and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Identify program gaps and independently lead process improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with technicians and program management teams to implement maintenance strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations across all maintenance and inspection activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 4+ years of engineering experience, preferably within service engineering or product support environments
  • Strong 3D CAD experience (CATIA preferred)
  • Experience designing across multiple fabrication and manufacturing processes
  • Solid understanding of complex mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and safety protocols
  • Strong documentation skills and ability to manage projects independently

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Experience using ERP systems for maintenance and operational data management
  • Automotive industry experience

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) Subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
