Job description
HireArt is helping our client find a Mechanical Engineer, Serviceability (contract role) to lead Design for Serviceability (DFS) initiatives and support fleet inspection and maintenance programs.
In this role, you’ll evaluate form, fit, function, and service access across products while collaborating cross-functionally to optimize repairability, reduce maintenance costs, and improve operational uptime. You will also help manage inspection and maintenance programs across operational and test fleets.
The ideal candidate has hands-on mechanical design experience, strong systems understanding, and a passion for improving product serviceability and lifecycle performance.

Design for Serviceability (DFS)
- Partner with cross-functional teams to drive serviceability improvements throughout the product lifecycle.
- Evaluate part and assembly designs from concept through manufacturing, ensuring proper hand clearance, tooling access, ergonomics, and replacement feasibility.
- Identify the need for specialized tooling and collaborate with tooling teams on design and development.
- Develop cost and time models to identify opportunities to reduce repair complexity and service costs.
- Partner with technical writing teams to define and document repair procedures.
- Develop service part release strategies and maintain the Service BOM to support spare parts planning.
Inspection & Maintenance (I&M)
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and maintain inspection and maintenance plans for operational vehicles and test fleets.
- Analyze maintenance effectiveness data and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Identify program gaps and independently lead process improvement initiatives.
- Partner with technicians and program management teams to implement maintenance strategies.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations across all maintenance and inspection activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 4+ years of engineering experience, preferably within service engineering or product support environments
- Strong 3D CAD experience (CATIA preferred)
- Experience designing across multiple fabrication and manufacturing processes
- Solid understanding of complex mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and safety protocols
- Strong documentation skills and ability to manage projects independently

- Experience using ERP systems for maintenance and operational data management
- Automotive industry experience
