Job description

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Wire Harness Engineer – 3D CAD Designer to develop wire harness routing and design, along with mechanical design of electronic enclosures and electrical boxes.

In this role, you'll be challenged to rethink what it means for hardware Design to develop a purpose-built vehicle that drives itself, working cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proficient in 3D modeling tools and CATIA V5/V6. You thrive in a fast-paced, engineering-driven environment.

As a Wire Harness Engineer – 3D CAD Designer, you'll:
  • Design and develop 3D wire harness models using CATIA V5/V6 ensuring quality, compliance, and manufacturability.
  • Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings and documentation for wire harness assemblies, routing, and installation.
  • Design electronic enclosures and electrical boxes, including mounting and interface features, for use in various environments.
  • Collaborate with engineers to interpret schematics and/or sketches and convert them into accurate, manufacturable 3D harness designs.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable standards for safety, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), connector pinouts, wire tables, and cable schedules.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting of harness assemblies and enclosures.
  • Interface with suppliers and manufacturing to ensure design feasibility and support production transitions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in wire harness design and 3D CAD modeling
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6
  • Experience designing electrical/electronic boxes, including layout and packaging of components
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and connector systems
  • Demonstrated release of hardware products with firmware/software dependencies
  • Experience with JIRA
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Bonus Qualification Skills:
  • Experience in automotive, aerospace, defense, or industrial control systems
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC considerations in wire routing and enclosure design
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping methods for enclosures (3D printing, CNC machining)
  • Experience with industry technologies and protocols, including CAN, Automotive Ethernet, A2B, and power distribution
  • Solid understanding of wiring standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001, MIL-STD, or similar)
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, engineering-driven environment

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) Subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. The role is onsite and available to candidates local to the Foster City, CA area.
