Job description

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a Manufacturing Technician, End-of-Line to join its team.

In this role, you will support vehicle-level functional testing at the end of the manufacturing process, ensuring autonomous vehicles meet quality, safety, and performance requirements before deployment. You will work hands-on with vehicles, collaborate closely with engineers and technicians, and provide clear communication and documentation throughout all testing activities.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, experience working with autonomous or advanced automotive systems, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You are proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable navigating diagnostics, cross-functional communication, and structured processes.

As a Manufacturing Technician, End-of-Line, you’ll:

Vehicle Testing & Validation
  • Conduct comprehensive vehicle-level functional testing throughout all End-of-Line (EOL) processes.
  • Spend approximately 50% of your time driving vehicles in autonomous mode.
  • Perform diagnostics, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting with minimal engineering support.
  • Execute vehicle bring-up procedures, including required software and firmware updates.
  • Support testing on new vehicle platforms, helping identify early issues and validate fixes before fleet deployment.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional partners.
  • Provide regular testing updates to leads and management.
  • Escalate issues that block testing progress and proactively report new or unexpected behavior.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to refine processes and contribute feedback for future development.
Operational Excellence & Documentation
  • Follow established processes and procedures while identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Generate accurate mission reports, ZPT reports, and other documentation tied to vehicle readiness.
  • Follow up on outstanding ZPTs and provide summaries or recommendations.
  • Assist in creating and refining Manufacturing AST work instructions in partnership with engineers.
Systems, Tools & Technical Proficiency
  • Navigate and utilize key tools and systems such as TestRail, GitHub, Looker, CANalyzer, Vehicle Testers, MFG PSS, and Twilio.
  • Interpret and apply technical documents, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Support software, firmware, and hardware-related tasks as required by Engineering or General Assembly.
Shop & Vehicle Operations
  • Maintain clean, organized vehicles, equipment, and work areas in compliance with Environmental Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Assist with vehicle transportation, movement logistics, and general shop support.
  • Multitask across multiple vehicles and mission lifecycles in a dynamic testing environment.
  • Support evolving processes, cross-train across tasks, and assist other teams as needed.

Requirements

  • 2-6 years of experience in the autonomous vehicle, manufacturing, or automotive industry
  • Strong mechanical skills; comfort with cutting, drilling, assembly, and teardown work
  • Ability to perform light electrical tasks (~10-15%)
  • Ability to interpret technical diagrams and schematics
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and test equipment
  • Technical aptitude across firmware, software, and hardware
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to learn
  • Excellent driving history with a strong focus on safety
  • Occasional travel to the Hayward, CA site

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, trade school training, or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience in R&D or manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with autonomous systems or ADAS
  • Exposure to GitHub, TestRail, and other software tracking tools

Work Environment:
This role operates within manufacturing and testing environments. You may experience periods of downtime and will be expected to support other teams as needed to meet production and testing schedules. All manufacturing safety rules and policies must be followed.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work in a manufacturing or shop environment for extended periods

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (Eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. This role is onsite and available to candidates local to the Fremont, CA area.
