The ideal candidate has strong FMEDA experience, solid hardware fundamentals, and a working knowledge of ISO 26262. They collaborate well across engineering teams and take ownership of diagnostic coverage and safety compliance.

As a Functional Safety Engineer, you'll:
  • Lead and participate in quantitative and qualitative functional safety analyses, including system- and board-level FMEDA.
  • Review vendor documentation for components, boards, and safety manuals to identify diagnostic capabilities for complex SoCs and microprocessors.
  • Partner with firmware engineers to enable diagnostics and collaborate with V&V teams to confirm diagnostic performance.
  • Work closely with Test and Test Infrastructure teams to guide verification efforts and strengthen diagnostic verification.
  • Develop new hardware and firmware requirements to improve diagnostic coverage across safety-critical systems.
  • Define and support fault-injection testing activities to ensure compliance with ISO 26262:2018.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Automotive, or Robotics Engineering or a related field
  • 6+ years of work experience performing board-level FMEDA and understanding of SoC FMEDA
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 or other functional safety standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written, verbal, and cross-functional communication skills; collaborative team player

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Automotive hardware design and validation experience
  • ISO 26262 certifications (CFSE, CFSP)
  • Familiarity with reliability standards (e.g., SN29500, IEC 61508)
  • Knowledge of failure-mode distribution standards (e.g., FIDES, FMD)
  • Hands-on hardware validation and board bring-up experience within standards such as ISO 26262, DO-178C, DO-254, IEC 61508

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (Eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
