HireArt is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to support FMEDA efforts across system, sub-system, board, and component levels. This role ensures strong diagnostic coverage and hardware reliability for advanced compute and sensor platforms.
In this role, you’ll collaborate with systems and design engineers to understand hardware requirements, validate diagnostic capabilities, and provide verification evidence. You’ll also develop and review test plans for functional and fault-injection testing in alignment with ISO 26262.
The ideal candidate has strong FMEDA experience, solid hardware fundamentals, and a working knowledge of ISO 26262. They collaborate well across engineering teams and take ownership of diagnostic coverage and safety compliance.

As a Functional Safety Engineer, you'll:
- Lead and participate in quantitative and qualitative functional safety analyses, including system- and board-level FMEDA.
- Review vendor documentation for components, boards, and safety manuals to identify diagnostic capabilities for complex SoCs and microprocessors.
- Partner with firmware engineers to enable diagnostics and collaborate with V&V teams to confirm diagnostic performance.
- Work closely with Test and Test Infrastructure teams to guide verification efforts and strengthen diagnostic verification.
- Develop new hardware and firmware requirements to improve diagnostic coverage across safety-critical systems.
- Define and support fault-injection testing activities to ensure compliance with ISO 26262:2018.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Automotive, or Robotics Engineering or a related field
- 6+ years of work experience performing board-level FMEDA and understanding of SoC FMEDA
- Familiarity with ISO 26262 or other functional safety standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong written, verbal, and cross-functional communication skills; collaborative team player
Bonus Qualifications:
- Automotive hardware design and validation experience
- ISO 26262 certifications (CFSE, CFSP)
- Familiarity with reliability standards (e.g., SN29500, IEC 61508)
- Knowledge of failure-mode distribution standards (e.g., FIDES, FMD)
- Hands-on hardware validation and board bring-up experience within standards such as ISO 26262, DO-178C, DO-254, IEC 61508
