Job description

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find an Electrical Engineer, UX Hardware, to support the development of key human-machine interface (HMI) systems that enable seamless interaction between riders and autonomous vehicles.

In this role, you’ll design, prototype, and validate hardware systems for user authentication, access, communication, and occupant monitoring, owning the electrical design from concept to production and collaborating across teams to meet vehicle milestones.

The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical engineer with a strong background in component and system design, validation testing, and supplier management. You’re highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and motivated to develop safe, intuitive rider interfaces for next-generation autonomous mobility.

As an Electrical Engineer, UX Hardware, you’ll:
  • Define and manage electrical component and system requirements, leading technical discussions and development with suppliers.
  • Coordinate supplier tooling and production activities to meet critical vehicle milestones.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software, and manufacturing teams to iterate on designs and deliver reliable solutions.
  • Conduct root-cause analyses during development, validation, build, and deployment phases to drive issue resolution.
  • Develop and execute system- and component-level validation test plans to ensure performance and compliance.
  • Support manufacturing and quality teams during vehicle builds, bring-up, and test activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 5-10 years of experience in electrical component/system design and troubleshooting
  • Proven experience taking components or assemblies from concept through production, including supplier coordination and project management
  • Experience in automotive (CAN bus, automotive Ethernet, A2B, and other vehicle networks), aerospace, or other safety-critical industries
  • Familiarity with digital serial interfaces such as SPI, UART, I2C, and I2S
  • Experience with electrical and EMI/C testing

Bonus Qualifications
  • Knowledge of automotive functional safety standards (ISO 26262)
  • Experience with firmware/software development, testing, or integration
  • Familiarity with chassis or electromechanical systems
  • Experience with high-speed protocols such as PCIe, DisplayPort, or HDMI
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Altium, 3DX, Catia V5/V6, or similar

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (Eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. This role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week onsite, and is available to candidates local to the Foster City, CA area.

HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
